“The More Difficult the Times, the More Delicious the Food!”

Considering both the restaurant and medical industries struggling during the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, we thought, “We want to support both. What can we do?” and planned a project to support both through “food.” Named “The More Difficult the Times, the More Delicious the Food!” the concept involved purchasing meals from restaurants forced to close and delivering them free of charge to medical professionals.

For speed, we began by purchasing meals ourselves. Prominent chefs supported the initiative, and it gradually expanded. The Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry endorsed the concept, leading to collaborative promotion. We solicited support funds from private companies and individuals, continuing the project for nearly three years.

Through this activity, we received gratitude from medical professionals toward chefs, as well as comments about “the importance of food,” “people caring for people,” and “delicious food being a great support during difficult times.” This became an opportunity to consider the potential of “food” and how to better utilize chefs’ skills for society.
