G7 Summit Economic Ministers’ Meeting

Bringing Osaka’s culinary treasures to the world stage

When asked if we could present Osaka’s unique food culture at a reception for economic ministers, we proposed an overall concept for the reception content and food menu. We avoided a common mistake in Japan (where enthusiasm for promoting local ingredients and sake can overshadow the visitor’s perspective) and enhanced the appeal of local cuisine by repeatedly consulting with stakeholders about necessary approaches. Since the venue was in Sakai City, Osaka, we maximized the city’s history and unique strengths and proposed the concept of “A City Where You Can Experience the Origins of Japanese Food” to make “SAKAI” memorable. We expressed through our content how essential elements of Japanese cuisine—including Sen no Rikyu’s tea ceremony and knife-making history—originated in this city, incorporating these themes into the food menu.
